This new version brings some bug fixes and improvements to our Android and iOS apps:

• Piwik is now Matomo which includes some name changes in the app as well as showing the new logo
• Fixed broken “Get-involved” link
• Links to Matomo or other websites now open in the browser app and no longer in the app itself
• Improved visitor log to support more actions (see #12284)
• We have updated the underlying framework bringing some performance and compatibility improvements

What’s new in Matomo Mobile?

This new version brings some bug fixes and improvements to our Android and iOS apps:

• Custom Dimension reports are now shown within the app
• Segments are now applied in sub-reports #5353
• User ID is now displayed in visitor profile #5341
• URL submitted on login are now trimmed #5338

We have removed the possibility to disable SSL validation in this update due to a Google Play restriction. We know there are some users depending on this feature and we recommend to not update if you cannot make the SSL certificate valid for your Matomo Analytics (formerly Piwik Analytics) domain.

If you are an Android 6+ user and still want to get the update, you can download Matomo 2.3.0 for Android 6+ from our website.

Why we must focus on Matomo Mobile 2

Unfortunately we do not have the resources to maintain Matomo Mobile 1 to be compatible with the latest iOS and Android updates (namely iOS 8 and Android L). The last update of Matomo Mobile 1 was over one year ago and the underlying framework, which we are using to develop the app, is nearly two years old. Making the code compatible with the current version of the underlying framework to support the latest platform versions would take us many weeks. As a little background: From the beginning Matomo Mobile 1 has been a free app and was developed by a single person Thomas in his spare time who is now focussing on Matomo Mobile 2.

Can I still get it?

We are announcing this today so you get a chance to install the app via the Apple App Store and Google Play Store while it is still available.

If you are one of the 87% of our Matomo Mobile 1 users who are already using Android 4+ or iOS 7+ then you can install Matomo Mobile 2 (make sure you upgrade your Matomo (Piwik) platform to 1.12 or 2.x recommended).

What happens after the app is removed?

If you have already installed the app it won’t be removed from your device and you will still be able to use it. Android users can still download Matomo Mobile 1 but we cannot guarantee it will work on all devices. Lastly the code our free software is available on GitHub and you can build it from the source if you have to.

The future of Matomo Mobile

Matomo Mobile version 2.1 is currently in beta testing phase. This new version includes several useful new features such as support for Segmentation. If you use Android, give it a try!

The Source Code is available under a GPLv3 license: https://github.com/piwik/piwik-mobile-2. We have rewritten the whole code base in the last twelve months. We are now using the Alloy framework which helps us develop cross-platform mobile apps easier and gives us the possibility to simply customize the app for each platform and form factor (Tablet / Smartphone).

The result is code which is better to read, understand, maintain and extend!

Backward Compatibility

If you use an older version of Android (less than v4) or iOS (less than v7), please use Matomo Mobile 1 instead: install the app for Android (click here) or iOS (click here). Matomo Mobile 1 app still works with Matomo 2.0 but we don’t guarantee it will in the future.

Matomo Mobile 2 works with the old Matomo 1.12 but you might experience a few issues that were fixed in Matomo 2.0.
